"One of my favourite bands from last weekend was Platform 1, a folk band from Carmarthenshire. They’re music was brilliant, their vibe was so sweet and positive and their Dad/Manager/Biggest fan was lovely to talk to and glowing with pride for his two children" - Review of our performance at Hub Festival 2017 by Amy Ellen
"I’ve followed the development of this duo/trio/band for a number of years. The development of the songs and sound has been fast and furious.Martha’s vocal is highly distinctive – endearing, piercingly listless, sometimes sorrowfully languid, always powerful: a thing of beauty – vocal style, reminding me just a little of Natalie Merchant. There is a compelling honesty to the delivery of each line.
Josh’s very guitar phrase meticulously considered, designed and performed, whether it be the Bryds-like jangling guitar of the early ‘Why Do You Have to Go?’ and ‘Leave This House Now’ or the motif-creating interpolations of the more recent ‘Five’ and ‘So Much for the Sadness’, where the electric takes on an orchestral role, with the most delicate of touches.
The music is broadly ‘contemporary folk’, but veers from what is restfully and attractively tuneful to sharp, more direct and broken tracks, with lyrical content moving from the personal (longing; indignation; deep self-reflection) to exploring the interface between the personal and the social, all tackled in a unique manner. "Platform 1 produce music that is uniquely beautiful. Like a bright red tie in a room full of beige, their songs have a brilliant uniqueness. With chord structures from Josh containing a subtle chromaticism blended with Martha's faultless vocal they are one of a kind." - By Daniel James @ BGfm Radio // 25.05.20
